Skincare: 5 Helpful Tips To Remember For Your Daily Routine

Over the course of  7 years, I have acquired a decent amount of knowledge on skincare. During that time I was battling with some awful acne. I have a sensitive skin which can get super oily. To the point that that, even if  I’m not moving,  my forehead is greasy. In just under like 30 seconds. So, for years I have been struggling to get the skincare routine that will benefit me the most. The amount of brands I have tried will astonish you. But over the years, I have learned a lot about skincare. Some important tips that I find to be more useful than a 10 step night time routine. These tips have been so helpful to me. So, I just thought it to be fair to share it some of them with you guys. Keep reading for a special announcement at the end of the post!

So, here are some skincare tips to remember !

1. Sometimes you don't a 16-step skincare method

Normally, from the popular trends and influencers, we have seen the tens and tens of skincare bottles. From cleansers to toners to serums upon serums. So many products that they use to achieve the face they have. Disclaimer: this part is my personal opinion. If you do not agree with it then that’s fine. If you do then that’s cool too. But sometimes, you don’t need a 16-step method to achieve the skin you want. The human skin is very complex as it is. And when you add genetics, eating habits, and ethnicity. It can get even more complex.

There are probably people out there who need 10 products to complete their routine. And others may just need 3 items. We’ve been forced to normalize expensive and luxury items. But lets be honest. Not all of us can afford the luxury skincare that our favorite celebrities and influencers have. The best skincare routine to start off with is a simple cleanser-toner-moisturizer method. As you learn more about your skin, then you can step it up. If you want to want of course.

2. Know your skin/skincare before trying anything new

The most important tip that I can give is that you need to know your skin. When I was struggling with acne really bad, I’d just put anything on my face. Never looking at the ingredients. Or whether it was for sensitive skin. Before you start splurging on the tools and the creams and the soaps, know what skin type you have. Are you oily or have more of a dry skin? Try to find out what reacts well with your skin and what doesn’t.

Something that I suggest when trying new skincare products is to do a test run first. But not on your face. Choose either your arm or your chest, and try the product out. If it starts to burn to the point that it is hurting , immediately rinse it off. “Beauty is pain” is a awful quote to follow with skincare. Because pain means you are having an allergic reaction. Hey! Maybe you’re like me and can only use natural skincare products. Over time, keep track of what works and what doesn’t. This will help you out when you’re wanting to try out new products.

3. What works for the majority may not work for you & that's okay

I had to learn this tip the hard way. Over the course of 7 years, I have used Curology, Proactive, Clean & Clear, CerVae, the Ordinary, Neutrogena, and probably some other brands that I can’t remember. All these brands were said to be the best of the best. So many people showed me their results. I read hundreds and hundreds of reviews on each and every brand. Yet, whenever I would try them. Nothing good happened.

I just had to tell myself that just because it works with the majority, doesn’t mean it’ll work for me. It’s a constant reminder that I had to get in to my head. To be honest, some of those brands were not made for African-American/Black people skin. And the sponsors and reviews should’ve been the first red flag. It’s okay though. There are so many skin care brands out there. You’ll find the one that best fits you.

Skincare steps to go by

4. Consistency is key

The worst thing to do in skincare is get off track. Once you have a routine, it is best to stick with it. Even if you come home tried one night. You better muster up the energy to do your routine. Because once you go off that consistency, your skin will start to as well. You see, our body relies on balance. If you go off balance then your body will have to try and get back to normal. There were many times where I would skip a day of my skincare and the next day I have three new pimples. (My skin is a pain that way).

Stay consistent with your routine. The best way to do that, is to have your products lined up in how you use them either the morning off or the night before you use it. That way, you don’t have to search for what you need. Keep a skincare calendar on your phone. Set reminders for yourself. The only person to be in charge of your skin is you.

5. It's okay if your skin isn't perfect in the time you want

Most of us see these results that everyone else is getting and see how long it took them. Some people see results in less than three months. Others may take 5-8 months. Heck, my skin takes about a year to finally see true results from something. It’s normal to feel discouraged because something isn’t moving as fast as you want it to. But remember, your skin is not the same as others. What may take a couple weeks for others. May just take a couple months for you. That doesn’t mean you have bad skin. It just means you need to adjust to what you are experiencing. Patience is a big thing to hold on to when you are dealing with skincare. Without it, you’re just going to let yourself down more than you intended to.

THANK YOU FOR READING !

Skincare is something that I don’t take as seriously as I guess social media wants us to. I do see as something vital to have some knowledge on. But everyone’s skin is different and complex. That honing in on it will of course have you see the flaws. And looking at social media all day will only ruin you even more. I’ve been fighting with my acne for years at this point. Hundreds of dollars of my money wasted and it wasn’t till know. Where I can say that I have found something that might work. If it does, then I’ll let you guys know the secret. Trust me, I see no point in hiding what might be working for me.

But, remember skincare is individually unique!
