Intentions: 5 Helpful Ways To Start Off The Year Right

intentions

Happy New Year, my T.A & Co. lovelies ! 2022 is here and already I have exciting news. On Dec. 29th of 2021 I was featured in a New York Times article! For backstory, I’m a member of an app called 28ROW. It is an up and coming app for young college women pursuing content creation to meet other young college women. The app having mini social groups ranging from mental health support, to relationships, to beauty and to content creation.  28ROW had the article written about them & they interviewed me for the article. Wanting to know my experience with the app. Already using this exciting experience to set my intentions for the new year.

This is such a surreal experience. If you would like to read the article & learn more about 28ROW. Click the button below!

With the new year upon us, we tend to want to forget the year before. Maybe you did enough reflecting and now you’re ready to make the change you want. But there’s something people tend to forget. Before you take action, set your intentions for the new year. You may be wondering. What does it mean to set an intention? When you set an intention, you are taking a moment to ask yourself “What do I want to get out of this?”. Helping you to stay aligned with your goals, desires, and needs in life. Before you embark on your quest for the year. Take a minute to read 5 ways to start off right when it comes to the intentions for the new year.

So much happens in a year. But yet we want to point out the bad parts. The best way to set your intentions for the year is to show gratitude. Grab a piece of paper or a journal. Get your favorite pen & sit down with yourself. Think about the positives that has happened in the past year. What did you learn? What events happened that changed you for the better? Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions in their life. It gives you a chance to relish in the good experiences rather than the bad. It is also proven to improve your health & build stronger relationships in your life. You’ve learned the lessons you needed to from the negative experiences. No need to start off your year dwelling on something that can’t be changed.

2. Create a list of goals with steps on how to achieve it

The best thing you can do to start the year off right is to set your goals. When it comes to setting intentions for the year you want to have an idea of what you want to accomplish. I don’t like to write down resolutions. The word makes it seem like a bigger deal than it is. Writing down your goals just gives you a sense of direction that you want the year to go. Grab a fresh journal that you can use. Write down 5 achievable goals that you want to achieve in the year. If that is too broad, then use this same template for each month.  Once you have your goals, set your intentions with an action plan.  How will you achieve this goal? What resources do you need? Where do you need to go?

Don’t hold yourself back in the beginning of the year. Whether it was a great year or an awful year.  There are things to be learned. Get vulnerable with yourself. Ask yourself the hard questions as to why the last year didn’t go how you wanted. Or how you can continue to strive. I think that we tend to not want to be honest with ourselves in the beginning of the year. We just want to brush the last year under the rug. As if it never happened. But to set your best intentions & to start the year off right, you need to get deep with yourself. What do you want from the new year? How do you want it to go? What will you do to keep yourself on track? Don’t skim this over. Get real with yourself and start this new year off right.

A vision board is a great way to visualize your year & set the best intentions. I have started making vision boards for the past two years. And it truly helps to keep your eye on the prize. So, how do you make a vision board? Well, you can either do a physical board. Which then you will glue and sort & get creative with how you want it to look like. Or you can do a digital one like I have. I’ve used Canva & a website called thelanding app to create my vision boards.

I’ll do a blog post going more in depth about vision boards and ho to make one. But to sum it up, vision boards are one of the ultimate ways to set intentions for the year. Make sure to place it where you can always see it. It will help you constantly visualize what you want. Helping manifest it in to your life.

5. Set intentions with positivty & optimism

The best way to start the new year off right is to set intentions with positivity & optimism. I know that the last 2 years have been pessimistic. Making us be less hopeful and more realistic. But the thing is you have to have some optimism for the year. A good amount of hope that things will go your way. Setting intentions is more so about your mentality than the physical aspect. If your psyche doesn’t align with what you want then it won’t come. Or it will be delayed. So make sure that when you think of the new year, you think of all the positives. And what you want to manifest to happen.

It’s so surreal to think that my face is in the New York Times. That is something that was not in my 2021 bingo card. But it happened & I am so grateful for the opportunity. If you’re a young college girl, I suggest joining 28ROW. Through there I have met such amazing people. Also, it is such a safe and supportive space that the creators made.
