We all know about shapewear. But in the last decade , shapewear has take a very different turn in the industry. Before it used to just be granny panties and synched waists. Now we’ve seen the shapewear turn in to a fashion piece rather than something you use under your dresses. But lately the shapewear game has been dominated by brands like SKIMS and Savage X Fenty. Although, a new player has entered the game. On April 12th, Lizzo officially dropped her own shapewear line called Yitty. Sizes ranging from 6X to XS. This is the change we needed in shapewear.
Lizzo has brought in something new and is ready to take the industry by storm.
Many brands have decided to start to be inclusive of all body sizes. And even body types. But Lizzo took inclusivity as the forefront of her brand. Many shapewear brands either they run small or they don’t even go past a XXL. Which leaves no place for the plus size girlies in this industry. Yitty says “The plus size women are the charge in this”. Having their sizes starting at 6X. Yep, you heard me right. It STARTS at 6X and not XS. Showing that this clothing line has the plus size girlies included in every aspect. Not only with body types, but also with diversity. Of course, having models range from all different ethnicities and body types. Making you feel welcomed without even saying a word.
It's not just shapewear
From the line up of items, it’s obvious that Lizzo took Yitty through a different direction. Most shapewear lines start out with only launching the shapewear. Having it be used to form a new body for women. Lizzo put out probably in my opinion the best collection you could start out with. Not only is there shapewear bodysuits and shorts.
She also dropped high waisted leggings, bralettes, midi bras, hoodies, biker shorts, etc. All ranging from different colors. Honestly, I bought the cross bralette , black bike shorts, black high waisted leggings and I’m excited to try them on. Just from the look you can tell it’s not like normal leggings and bralettes. Also, Lizzo just made them look so good, I just had to snag something.
Honestly, all shapewear has started to look the same. Only caring the neutral tones in order for a seamless skin blend. Yitty brings the fun to shapewear and the pop of color that you’ll love. Having fun colors such as pink, royal blue, bright red, sunshine yellow, and a cute lilac to bring it all together. Yitty has you lookin like a whole boss b*tch in shapewear. Not only caring skin toned colors, but having the range be further in to the darkest skin color. Giving extra points to diversity. Caring shapewear from bodysuits to underwear.
If you want to check out Yitty , I highly recommend it. Ever since she announced it about a month a half ago, I’ve been waiting for it. Times are changing in the fashion industry. Midsize and Plus size women are no more taking a back seat. If they won’t give a seat at the table then we’ll make our own. And Lizzo has done just that. She always has been such an inspiring advocate for more representation of curvy/plus size women in the fashion industry.
To see her make her own brand and have the values that she stands for be perfectly shown. It really is just reinventing what we see when we say “shapewear”. These other brands need to step up their game because Lizzo didn’t come to mess around. She’s ready to take the shapewear world by storm. And I will gladly give her all my money as she does.
